ellipse & pattern along a path - not working

I'm trying to model a crown. For the top of the head band I want to add some "filigree". I'm trying to use pattern on path to copy a cut/sweep feature around the top of  the band. while i'm in the edit feature mode for pattern I can get things previewing correctly but once I click OK the features get all bunched up and/or incorrectly rotated.

I tried simplifying & starting a test file of just the process I'm trying to achieve & it still doesn't work (https://a360.co/2FYrmTV)

no matter what i do it doesnt seem to work -

Is it the compound curve/elipse causing the issue?

is there a different process i should be using?

Change your setting for the pattern to match the following configuration.  I added some color to the faces of the feature to make it easier to see.  The pattern is for a quality of 60, I did not see how many you really wanted.  I attached my changes to your model using a different name.  Attachment is below, not on A360.

welp, that worked like a dream.

not sure why "faces" works when "feature" doesn't. I was trying to adapt the technique shown in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dfxm8irfEhc from Autodesk where they textured a grip. but the result kept bunching up.

the important thing is your way works - Thanks!
