DXF export

Hello,

Was there some change to the sketch DXF export recently ?

I'm using the DXF to work on laser machine. I do right click on sketch ->export as DXF

Have a look at the picture. the top EU sign is about 2 months old and it's nice and rounded

The bottom EU sign is from today. Looks bit weird.

I'm using the same font and settings in Fusion 360 and the same software for laser.

It seems it's linked to the font, as if I export the old one again - it's OK after import, but if I create a new text on it, this text is wrong...

Anything changes for the fonts in DXF export ? Looks like it's some lite version ...

Thanks

JJ

Hi,

Please share the file.

File > export > save as f3d on local drive  > attach it to the next post.

There was an "improvement" made in the April update for conversion of fonts to geometry. Could be it is using splines now, dose it look correct in Fusion?

From April What's New.

Improved! Text curves are now smoother after Explode Text
Right-click on Sketch Text > Explode Text

Depending on the font you’re working with, it’s sometimes necessary to “explode” the text. Explode Text converts your text into usable sketch geometry, and previously some edges on fonts that contain lots of curves were not very smooth. We improved the performance of Explode Text and now text curves are a lot smoother after the text has been exploded.

Improved! Font dropdown now shows preview of font

Unfortunately the explode text command doesn't help 😞

Everything looks perfect in fusion 360.

The issue is somewhere between export and import. But since the old DXF are OK after import I suggest it needs to have some link to the new functionality... maybe some new format of DXF.

But if I import the new DXF file to Solid Edge, everything looks OK..

So it's some strange combination of export / import... I will try to figure out.

I will close this for now

Thanks

What I was trying to point out is that they made an improvement to smooth fonts and create less segments not just when exploded. Doing this I guess they're creating splines, most programs can read degree 3 splines but I expect some are degree 5, sounds like Solid Edge can read this but your other program can't.

You could try the DXF spline to poly line add in but it will increase file size and just convert splines into segmented poly lines.

Hi Mark

I have installed the add on, but now the text in the imported dxf file is even worse.

have a  look at the picture.

I probably need to find some external translator now.

I have tried all the combinations with explode text and expord to dxf...

Thanks

Can you attach the original DXF, not the one made using the add in? You'll need to ZIP the file before uploading.

When you used the add in what did you set the number of sections too?

aaaah. that setting was the trick. I have a different table - not the slider, but some tolerance degree to put in. I have put 0,01 instead of 1 and now the text looks great !

Thanks a lot Mark!
