CREATE DXF OF LASER CUT PART TO INCLUDE LASER ETCHED TEXT?

Hi, hope someone can help - I have created some parts to be laser cut, as DXF file, but need to add some text to parts that can be laser etched. How do I add text that can be etched rather than shapes that will be cut out!

Hi,

ask your laser cutter&engraver which data are needed.

Maybe it is a second sketch with special symbolism.

Hi

Thanks for posting. From my experience I don't think the cutting depth or cutting or etching is dependent on the dxf. You just create the boundary in dxf. I would rather create the text and fill the sketch with solid gradient and then rest will be done in cam.

Please contact with the machine operator/programmer and ask him what he need specifically for the text.

Figured how to add - pretty simple - just using the add text command from the sketch and selecting a single line font like CDM.shx.

However, when it is saved as a DXF file, it is lost and the border becomes a cut line?

Also, the details required for laser etch are as below:

Did you want a line (vector) engrave, so like the outline of some text or a raster engrave which would mean that the text would be infilled.

  • Vector engraving / scoring:
    • Blue Lines - hairline stroke width - colour: RGB: 0,0,255
  • Raster engraving:
    • Black lines / fills - any stroke width - RGB: 0,0,0

Solved this myself.

For some strange reason, if I actually create the font in lines within sketch, it works fine, whereas using the text function doesn't.
