Material Staging by Operation

Material Staging by Operation

Looking for the ability to do material staging for the products consumed in specific operations rather than the entire production order. We have multiple workstations in an assembly-line structure. These stations are put into different "sections" so operations are tied to a specific workstation. When doing material staging, all products consumed by the final product are available to be staged by each workstation. This does not allow us to communicate what needs to be staged at what workstation. It would be very helpful to be able to assign products during material staging to the device/workstation they are consumed at.

Hello @nwrightYDBY3 , thank you for your idea. Despite requiring one extra click to workers (they'd need to select the operation while staging), I understand the problem you are describing.

Hello @andrade_david

Thanks for the response. Could you elaborate on what this means? When a worker clicks on materials staging, they then select the production order. After this click, all the material for the entire production order pops up and is available to be staged. There is not another screen where they can select the operation before this.

If this is a feature/screen that can be activated - that would solve this major issue of ours.

Thanks!

Hello @nwrightYDBY3

I meant that working on this idea would make workers being prompted with an additional screen with the operation, requiring one extra click (that would have to be managed carefully as for other customers this may not be needed).

We do not have this feature, but as it grows in count of votes we'll be looking into it closer.

Right now, all of our consumptions happen inside larger combined operations, even when some prep work needs to be done ahead of time, like welding a flange to a piece of pipe before the main operation starts. Instead of creating extra operations or sub-products just to handle early consumptions, it would be helpful to have a material staging function tied to a Production Order and a selected operation. A user could open a Staging button, choose a Production Order, select any operation tied to that product, and stage only the materials needed for that step. This would also support a foreman or kitting-type role, where one person can pre-build kits by putting flanges, pipe, and fittings together in a box and giving them to the workers already matched to that Production Order. We currently keep all inventory in production and not in warehouses because we know warehouse-style staging would not be followed correctly on the floor. This kind of staging and kitting tool would improve preparation, material flow, and efficiency without changing how our products or operations are structured. I know this is a bit of a different idea, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask.
