Ability to temporarily create and track products mid-sequence

During our training, I noticed that there are two main methods for laying out production operations:

1. You can take a single product through several operations.  Mid-sequence, there are no actual products created.  The same product is just being modified and tracked as WIP inventory.
2. You can create individual products for specific steps, or every single step, during the production process.  This allows you to see creation of these products, which can be stored and tracked in actual inventory.

A scenario could occur mid-process where a machine breaks or an event occurs that disrupts production, leaving parts in WIP.  It could be useful to have an option to convert those WIP items into physical inventory temporarily, in the event that they need to be stored in a warehouse location until maintenance or repair has been performed, or until the disruption has ended. The temporary physical inventory status could then be cleared and parts could be inserted back into the process to resume operations.

I'm not sure how often this would be used, but it seems like it could be very useful when the scenario does occur.

Hello @eric_schubertfops , thank you for posting this idea. Even though I understand the use case and the problem you're looking to solve, creating products/inventory in mid flow according to a specific trigger is something I don't find fit within the product considering .

Indeed, here you should use the WIP screen to track these quantities mid-flow (and I wouldn't exclude improvements here to make the analysis easier to you and I'm happy to discuss those further). If you'd like to track the movement of those units to a different warehouse you indeed must create multiple products, for all or for a subset of operations of the product. Then, you could have these products being generated on a specific operation, and consumed when the Production Order is resumed.
