Wrap toolpath incorrectly cuts wall

Hi everyone,

So I am attempting to cut a wrapped pocket and not having much luck with the wrap option for 2D contour or using 4 axis swarf.

I've attached the file to make things easier to look at.

I assume wrap will not be able to get the correct toolpath because it does not allow for Y-axis output. However, I am running into issues with swarf as well. Even though I have checked the 4th axis limit box in the operation, it still fails to post with the error that it is trying to command additional rotary axii (5 axis toolpath still).

I am using a DMG MORI NLX for this part and should note I have successfully posted 4 axis swarf operations in the past with fusion's NLX post.

1) Do you have any files you could share that successfully execute Swarf strategies with your post processor? And, are you using your own post, or the generic one from the library? It's "possible" that the library post has changed and is now flaking out on something that should technically be possible.

2) Wrap Toolpath is not an accurate path, and the tool-tip does warn of gouging:

@seth.madore  Do wrap toolpaths work with mill/turn

@daniel_lyall  I think Swarf toolpaths will depend on the capability of the control. An NLX is no slouch, so I "think" it would be possible, but one would need to dig out the owners manual to determine for sure.

The NLX is a ZX/CY machine. It would be capable of most anything a mill would be able to do. (minus toolchanges and whatnot)

-EDIT- And that would only be with "4th axis limit" turned on, which is only attainable through cam.betamode/on

Hi Seth,

Thanks for all your feedback. As far as the post is concerned, I have tried both the generic fusion NLX post that had worked in the past and I downloaded the latest NLX post. Both had the same result. I can try to dig up the past example I referenced but that might be lost in the sea of old parts.

I noticed though that if I change the post to say a  5-axis machine like the UMC750 that the 4 axis limit swarf path still clearly outputs 5-axis moves. To me it looks like a recent update to fusion must have changed how this option works and ended up breaking it. If that is the case, that really sucks because 4 axis swarf is really fusion's only option for this toolpath.

It would be really helpful if you could find that old file.

I don't think a recent update changed anything, as I've never had 100% success getting "4-axis limit" to behave properly. I'll do some digging..

Hey Seth @seth.madore ,

I wish I could find it but no luck so far. I fear it is lost.

So if wrap doesn't work and apparently neither does 4 axis swarf, what are our options then? I know you have a 4th on your Dura Seth Smiley Very Happy Have you had much luck getting good toolpath for this type of operation?

For any 4th axis work, I've just been using tool orientation and 2D Contour. It's not as pretty as one nice sweeping motion, but it's the best I've been able to come up with for the time being...
