turning beyond part

is there a way to extend a turning tool path beyond the part (to allow a parting surface) with "allow grooving" still on, but without it digging in at the rear? (first picture shows what i have, so obviously i need "grooving" so it gets the feature in the middle of the part, but i want the extension off the rear of the part to just be flat in line with the OD

I would limit the toolpath top the back end of the part and create a second one without grooving that extends beyond the back with Rest Machining enabled. If you limit the homing behavior it should act very closely to a single toolpath.

Seems a bit of a clunky solution. There will be wasted rapid time between
the 2 tool paths. Sure it wouldn't be much and i am only making 100 of
these, but time is money as they say.

Hi @HAMMENG

Thanks for posting! I wanted to jump in to show you how I would use sketch geometry and an open contour toolpath to approach this problem. I have illustrated this in the screencast below:

Hopefully this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Perfect Paul.

I didn't even think to use that feature (this is the first turned part I've programmed in fusion... And the first part I've made on my fanuc controlled machine, previously just used mazatrol on my mazak lathe)

I ended up just editing the code, but obviously this is more elegant of a solution.

Here was the result (single stepped with reduced feeds so finish isn't great)
