Can i a create a milling prog and post for edm wire?

Hi

We have a fanuc edm wire machine with .25 wire and looking just to generate a toolpath from a model.

can i just set up a .25mm end mill and post out? then edit at the control for wire feeds etc?

anyone come up with a solution?

@simon89EUJ I would only use this if you are not using the U and V axis on the EDM wire machine. You could use the nc path generated for X and y axis and manually add you start and end parameters into the program not forgetting to add in your Z values if you have a driven Z.

If you machine with compensation,  G41 or G42 then the diameter of the tool you program with will not matter I do not think.

I would only use this for complex shapes.

If you have a lot of 2d standard shapes then I used to quickly achieve this by writing standard macros and then changing desired sizes.

Hope this helps.

I think @HughesTooling is running a 2D wire eroder using Fusion. Although, I seem to remember certain things getting changed in what is passed to the post that made this difficult. 🤔

I've done this many times for 2D wire cuts. I setup a .013" end mill 10" long. I had to edit the gcode afterwards to make it a wire program but it wasn't too bad. The answer I got for a post was NO! Again modifying the code wasn't bad so I never tried to make a post.

AHHH! I replied to a 4yr old thread. Dangit!
