Toolpath roling over edge of surface

Dear Fusion 360 experts,

 

I am having problems generating toolpath using 3D strategies (parallel and/or contour).

 

I would like to use 3 mm ball cutter to finish steep walls of heatsink.

 

When I select option "touch surfaces" and select the surfaces I'd like to machine, the toolpath generated also veers around the corner of selected surfaces, generating path that collides with the model (not the stock, but the actual model). 

 

I looked around, but was unable to find option that would only machine parallel to the surface.

 

Any ideas are welcome and much appreciated.

If you have your model selected in your Setup (and you should) you can use a Silhouette selection to specify the area to machine, and use the Avoid Surfaces to keep the tool away from bordering areas which is what I'd suggest.

have you tried Tool center on boundary?

Thanks for the suggestions.

 

I have one body defined as model and other as stock.

 

I was unable to select the silhouette of the area. Then I tried with "selection" boundary. The results were not satisfactory 🙂

The “tool center on boundary” didn’t help as well..

Then I created surface offset (with zero offset and selected that as body. Now I was able to define the surfaces to avoid.

This resulted in perfect toolpath - and a fast one too!

I'm surprised by the Selection Boundary. Can you post a shot of the toolpath in that instance? It shouldn't be difficult to get your pictured toolpath without adding new geometry (I stress 'shouldn't' because it may be after all).

I have tried again with Selection Boundary.

 

The result is almost perfect. The only problem is that I am unable to select the bottom radius.

Are there any other tricks for selecting line-by-line besides holding the Alt key?
