Second milling operation doesn't mill correctly.

I have attached the file in question for your review. I have a simple 2 pocket milling operation of 2 different size pockets. The first (bigger) pocket mills fine. When going to the smaller pocket, the machine only mills down 4.6 mm. I have the second operation set up to mill starting at 9 mm down, in 3mm deep passes, and I have chosen the bottom of the model as "bottom"plus .5 mm. So, it should mill down 10.5 mm. The stock is 19mm thick.

 

I have ran the simulation and it runs fine on both operations. I have re-looked several time at my settings and don't see anything wrong.

 

Can you please assist with why the second operation does not mill correctly?

....it is milling correctly. You want it to go down 10.5mm, right? The bottom of your Pocket is -9mm. Tack on another 10.5mm and we get....19.5mm. Looking at our Simulation info, we see:

Bill, can`t see anything dramatic, looks OK and the code being produced does go to Z-19.5 so if the code is going there it could juse be how you are setting up at the machine for the second operation 🙂

 

You can of course do both depths in a single operation which should be easier 🙂

How would you do both depth in a single operation? I originally wanted to do it in one operation but couldn't get the pocket to do that. Would the pocket be the wrong operation?

Actually, since you're going beyond the bottom of the part, it would require a sketch located below the bottom of the part at the distance you want to go beyond Model Bottom. Set the Bottom Height to "Selected Contours" and select each one

Thanks Seth. The only reason I have it set to .5 mm below the bottom is because during the simulation, it did not cut all the way through. I don't know why but .5 mm did it so I used that.

I tried this again using a single pocket operation. (attached) It mills the larger hole fine. Then starts to mill the smaller hole but starts at the model top and NOT 9 mm down. Then it cuts air until it gets to the 9 mm down mark and continues to mill only another 4mm. I think that is why I did it in two operation because I couldn't get it to not cut air for the smaller hole. 

 

Also, as you can see in the settings, I have it set to mill multiple passes of 3mm each. The larger hole mills correctly but the smaller hole steps down about 1.5 mm per pass. That is confusing too.

 

But the sim works fine.

Any thought on this?

Actually, I am here to apologize as I found the problem and it was not F360 or anything I did to the file. It was in the machine itself. So thank you all again for jumping in and I am sorry for wasting your time.
