So my G69 issue brought to light the fact that I can tweak the post program.  Every post for me requires me to change a few things.  The biggest is when to turn off the coolant and when to turn it on.  I do not have a full enclosure so I need to turn the coolant on/off much lower.  I do it at Z 2. and add a 1 second dwell.  Also I need to turn off the coolant at Z 0.6 right after the section ends.  This is a real bummer for ops that have say 5-6 tools and changes involved.  Can I make these changes to always be added in my post processing?  Also can I remove the addition of G54 after every tool change?  I don't ever use G54 since it is dedicated to setting my tool lengths.

Do you use G55 instead?

 

Attach a simple text g-code file showing exactly where you want what (in RED FONT for clarity) and those edits can be done fairly easy

I had some time while I ate my breakfast, so I made a few edits to a stock Haas post.

G69 removed (you had that already)

M8 moved to after the G43 line with a dwell thereafter. Not certain how long a dwell was needed, so I will show you how to change it later if needed

Work offset will now be incremented one spot up. If you leave it set to "1" in the setup, it will post out G55. If you set it to "2", it will post out G56.

Wow thanks.  I use all kinds of settings.  G55-57 as well as G110-G129  Often I have all three vises with a different op in each one going.  So essentially I only want it in the opening of the program so I only need to change it once and not after every tool change.

 

I was looking for a dwell of just 1 second to give the coolant a chance to get going.

 

I also need the M09 moved to just before M5 before the tool change is going to happen.  Here is a quick one that I made the edits on the dwell time, M9 and rmoved the extra G55

Give this a shot and see if it's more to your liking. I'm not real crazy about not having the G5x post out on every tool, just thought I'd mention. It's not too bad, provided the control doesn't reset to a different offset upon a reset, power up, or M30. I know a Fanuc can have a parameter set so it holds the active offset. I could see a crash happening, but that's on Fanuc. Can't speak to Haas much. Something to keep in mind..

 

Another note; just attach the code next time, not copy/paste into the reply box. Makes for a lot of mouse wheel scrolling to get to the end of the post. More helpful to have an attachment that I can open up desperately.

That is great.  I definitely see what you are saying about the multiple G settings after each tool change.  I guess I could use the search in the program and replace all G55 with GXX but it would always make me paranoid I missed one or it missed one.  The original version of the Haas post from years ago only had one G54 in the beginning and never was an issue.  All I know about Fanuc is it uses G28 which causes a crash on Haas when used wrong!  

 

So there is no way to have a prompt that allows me to make the G5X or G1XX setting I am using?

To your second question first. The Setup is where you put your workoffset. In your case, a "1" would yield a G55, "2" a G56, etc etc

A Fanuc works just fine with G53. In fact, I much prefer it over the old style G28

Man that was SO HELPFUL.  I am self taught on the computer end so this was great.  I always wrote my multiple part programs myself.  What a gigantic help this is!

 

Could you change the post program to leaving the GXX after each tool change now that I will have the correct setting in the set-up folder?

 

This was so helpful I can barely explain how thankful I am.

No, you can change it yourself Smiley Wink

 

Look for this section in the .cps:

// wcs   The next line forces out a workoffset at every tool change. STM 12/17/16
  //if (insertToolCall || operationNeedsSafeWorkOffset) { // force work offset when changing tool
   // currentWorkOffset = undefined;
  //}

And remove the red // in the next three lines. Leave the // in front of the wcs alone (first line)

Save your file and you should be good to go
