Pocket Recognition Include Holes does not work in 2d Adaptive Pocketing

When a 'pocket' is a perfect circle (aka a 'Hole'), the pocket recognition feature does not detect it, even with 'Include Holes' selected.

Attached is a minimum reproducible example. The hole is properly detected by the 3d adaptive operation, but not the 2d

Hi

I don't believe through holes are considered "Pockets" for the purposes of Pocket Recognition.

In your example if a bottom is added to the hole it is detected

3D adaptive is model aware so it will "detect" all model features

Hm. Seems a little shortsighted. At the least, I'd expect 'include holes' to include the holes, even bottomless ones. I wonder if there's a particular reason for this.

The help documentation does seem to suggest that it does support "Holes" and "Circular pockets"

So It should work with a through hole

Holes and circular pockets

Geometrically, holes and circular pockets are the same. Use the Include Holes parameter to allow pocket recognition to consider circular pockets and holes in the selection, then use the Minimum Hole Diameter to control which circular pockets and holes are selected. The Minimum Corner Radius also restricts which circular pockets are selected. Quite often, the Minimum Corner Radius is set to equal the radius of the tool that you are using, meaning any circular pockets that the tool does not fit in are not included in the selection.

In the example below, when Include Holes is selected. Pocket recognition selects all the circular pockets and holes that are present in the model.

@seth.madore is this a bug or a limitation?

@a.laasW8M6T a limitation, unfortunately. Detecting holes in the pocket algorithm requires another batch of code from Hole Recognition and it's not currently plumbed up to work in the manner that the OP is expecting. There is a ticket for this (CAM-64401) and I'll add this thread to it.

It does appear that the Help Documentation needs to be corrected, I'll create a task for that.
