New Update Perpetually Crashes in MFG Workspace

After the new update, we're dealing with perpetual crashing or perpetual application hanging.

One machine in our shop appears to have a previous version of Fusion 360 which is the only machine we can successfully use at the moment.

SS- 2022-07-17 at 23.21.09.jpg

I noticed that regenerating the entire program crashes with an error dialog.

SS- 2022-07-17 at 23.38.56.jpg

Regenerating only the Steep & Shallow group Fusion crashes without error dialog.

In the attached video below you can see the same program regenerated on two different computers, one using a previous version of Fusion and one using the newest update.

A previous version of Fusion does not crash, it successfully regenerates the simple program.

After the update most of our programs cause Fusion to perpetually crash or hang, but not all of them, only like 80%.

I have copied the program in the video in a Fusion Team folder.

Can I have the email address of someone who can take a look at the program as an example of how the new update perpetually crashes Fusion?

Currently we are unable to machine new parts. If anyone can help us to please get back to a functional state please call me 24/7 at 707-490-5445.

Per the suggestion of a fellow Autodesk user who called me (thank you!) I followed the instructions found here:

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/fusion-360/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Fus...

0EM3g000003IDGp.png

After following these suggestions Fusion MFG still crashes every time without completing the successful generation of a program, without an error dialog.

Is anyone else having issues with Fusion crashing when regenerating a program after the new update?

I have not personally experienced this, but I've seen some reports of this. Is it all files, or just one in particular?
Are you saying that turning IPS to "off" did not improve your success?

Today upon launching Fusion it appears a new update (Version 2.0.13618) was pushed:

SS- 2022-07-20 at 22.12.59.png

Attached below is a video showing the new result, sped up 20x in loading areas to make it faster to view.

Like the July 12th update, with the July 22nd update Fusion perpetually crashes on program generation, sometimes without error dialog, sometimes with, other times it perpetually hangs.

MFG Workspace is COMPLETELY UNSTABLE!

How can our machine shop get back to a FUNCTIONAL / STABLE Fusion 360?

Any and everyone who can help please call +1 707-490-5445 24/7

It's going on 2 weeks with perpetual crashes on every machine in our shop, how are we to operate like this?

As of July 12th update, there are 3 possible outcomes to generating a program:

  1. Fusion crashes without error dialog
  2. Fusion crashes with error dialog
  3. Fusion perpetually hangs

We are unable to successfully generate programs.

One commonality is certain programs always crash without dialogs, others always crash with dialogs, others always hang, it does seem to be program specific.

Turning IPS of OFF did not have any effect, Fusion perpetually crashes at what appears to be exact same timing WTIH or WITHOUT IPS ON or OFF

If you create a super-simple model, say with just a setup and a facing operation, are you still seeing a crash?

Also, do you have auto-generation of in-process stock enabled? If so, can you disable that, and see if you continue to see these crashes?

Thanks,

Fusion 360 keeps crashing, and we have to deal with these issues; frustrated!!  It never happen with Mastercam or other CAM systems.

Please help us help you. What are you doing when it crashes? Can you attach a model with steps to reproduce?

Thanks,

  Jeff

Well it's time to add my woes to the list above @seth.madore @jeff.pek

Working this evening, 5 crashes when regenerating some toolpaths....

Fusion 360 just disappears. Sometimes there is a recovery file, sometimes the recovery file is corrupt.

Turning off regeneration of stock makes no difference.

I'm running 2.0.13615 - despite the above post no later version is being pushed to me....

another 5 times since the post - completely unstable and unusable at the moment...

C'mon people, we need files. Simply saying "it's crashing" is not enough for us to trouble shoot this. I've been programming my own work all week and have had no such issues. So, it's something about the complexity of your files or some magic combination of toolpaths and whatnot.

Hi @seth.madore ,

Apologies for being a bit grumpy last night, just frustrated.

https://harrisonclassicboats-my.sharepoint.com/:u:/g/personal/david_harrisonclassicboats_com_au/EeTK...

You know my files are pretty big and complex. The attached is still fairly large but it's a derive from the master document purely for CAM purposes. The master is around 600Mb, even though the attached file is onl7 about 10% of the parts, not sure why it's still 25% of the size?? There are 9 such derive files and al seem to be still large, maybe it's just what needs to be exported to crate a f3z file properly. They certainly perform fast in Fusion like they are smaller....

You will see under 18:01 there are 4 folders with toolpaths by tool. I dragged them all our from under 18:01 and added then in one by one. I was able to generate right up to the point I added back in the "6mm Ball End Mill" toolpaths, so it's something in there I suspect.

As a test, I duplicated the 18:01 setup to create new instance. Then in the "6mm Ball End Mill" folder, I can generate all toolpaths one by one individually with no problems, but if I select the folder name and try to regenerate them as a group - boom!

If you do a "Generate" from the "18-01" setup my Fusion goes boom.

It also seems to crash when I select multiple toolpaths win a folder.

Another behaviour, not sue it its related is that this document ( a derive from a master document ), sometimes when I save it in a state where all the toolpaths are generated, and I open the file up again ( with no change having been made to the master document, some of the toolpaths are invalid and I have to regenerate - not sure why?

David

Hi -

Thanks for sharing the model. I was able to reproduce a crash as you describe, but only if Automatic in-process stock generation is enabled. Can you confirm that you do not have that enabled?

Hi Jeff,

A quick video for you with In-Process Stock off - still a crash..

The file is later than what I posted yesterday, I've been able to progress by Ctrl-G on the individual toolpaths rather than the Setup or Folder name - just tiresome as the file is a derive from a master so every time update the master......

Also now running 2.0.13619

You'll notice the 6mm Ball End Mill Folder is red triangle - perhaps it's a tool, toolpath or related geometry issue??

https://harrisonclassicboats-my.sharepoint.com/:v:/g/personal/david_harrisonclassicboats_com_au/ERxb...

Also seem to occasionally be getting the following error in the Manufacturing workspace which unfortunately does not allow me to save the document ( a completely different file than the one I gave you ) the only option was to close the file without saving. Thankfully I saved about 5 minutes prior so didn't lose any work.

As I opened Fusion 360 today a new update was pushed on July 25th:SS- 2022-07-25 at 22.45.03.png

In the attached video below you can see the user experience on Update Version 2.0.13619 (July 25th)

Despite 4 subsequent updates pushed out since July 12th, Fusion continues to perpetually crash, we cannot generate a successful program, Autodesk has pushed a completely unstable / unusable product as of July 12th update, rendering Fusion 360 MFG space non-functional.

If anyone can help us get to a functional state (as it was before July 12th update) please contact Graham Clark 24/7: +1 707-490-5445

I'm currently in Japan timezone (Mazak & DMG HQs) but I will get back to you ASAP if you leave a message.
