😫that's first impression.
What was the reason to change?
Why mess up good things?
How you organize tools? If I want list to be by #. Or by diameters?
Renumber Tool, now I must go through several operations.

I tried it again last week.....turned it off very quickly.
So far, I cannot see past the very laggy response.

Hi Big_Mak

We're sorry to hear you think this, we put it out like this in order to get feedback on the initial direction the tool library was heading in case there were any big red flags other than just missing features. If you have any specific gripes please let us know what they are, all criticism is useful for us! If there is some workflow that you are unable to complete due to missing functionality that's very useful information for us.

Thanks

Stephen

I will tell you quite frankly how my experience went. I enabled the
preview. Then had to change a tool in a toolpath. Opened the tool managed
through the the toolpath pop up. I couldn't find the tool I wanted as there
was no rhyme or reason to the way the tools were sorted. I closed the tool
library, and turned off the preview, went back in to the tool manager and
found my tool in 3 short clicks. Currently for use in a professional
environment it's not usable.

I tried to give it a chance. This tool library is terrible to use. It's also really slow.

PLEASE do not fully implement this design. I would much rather just have a huge list than this.

Today's release contains an updated preview of the new tool library, available via Preferences > Preview Features > Tool Library .

Please try it out and let us know what you think!

Dear,

I am using the new tool library for the past months. I agree with the others comment that the color pattern and organization is far from logic, way better the old one but I can leave with it. The main point to me is the ability ot set multiple feed and speed profile which works great so plenty for me. Now since 3 weeks the new tool library is constanlty crashing in Windows 10. I have like 10 sec from when I open it before crashing. It happens immidiately if I try to edit or create a tool. Never had problem before. Already tried after the latest update. It is a bit faster but crashes in the same way. I think you got 10 reports from me from the last 3 days. On the other hand it works fine on Macbook.

WOuld be possible to fix this stability issue?

Thanks a lot for the great work you do!

Can you share with me the email you used for the crash reports?

Thanks,

@obrienmDo you have a changelog/release notes? I don't see any major changes on a quick glance. Mine is showing as V0.49.0 - Is that correct and current?

Edit: Looks like we can sort now, great! I might see if it's usable now that my multi-hundred-tool library can at least be sorted by diameter. I'd really like to see the "renumber tools" option available, that's something I used a lot.

Also, I use the "comment" field for a unique tool ID in my own database. Being able to display that in the main tool list is important to me. In the old tool library you can right click and display or hide almost any piece of data and sort by it. Let me know if that's in the works, I like the direction so far.

Thanks for the feedback @nick_p3dcreations .

Here's a summary of the changes:

  • Add more columns to the main tool table
  • Improvements to ISO/ANSI code input for turning tools
  • Add support for double-quotes as shorthand for inches
  • Swap OK/Cancel button order
  • Make the cutting data panel resizable
  • Make the panels a nicer size by default
  • Add Close button to bottom right when opened from the toolbar
  • Support Edit Tool from operation right-click menu
  • Change tool type from the Cutter tab on the Edit page
  • Summary of the current tool at the top of the Edit page
  • Various speed improvements
  • Many small improvements and fixes

We aim to add the Renumber Tools feature, plus make the columns customizable, in a future release.

Thanks for that. Looks like your problem is related to your graphics driver.  I wonder if there's a later version of the driver available for you to use?

You were right! I had to update it manually. the autoupdate was not detecting an actual new driver for the grapical Interface. Now it's working. Thanks a lot!

@engineeringNCMXB  We have released an updated version of the tool library under preview this week. Have you had chance to look at it yet? Hopefully you will recognise the improvements that have been implemented so far. We still have new features and alignment work to do but we may of missed some ideas with functionality. If you do use it then I would welcome your feedback.

Thanks

It would be great if the tool library-team could add possibilities to define corner-radius/chamfer on endmills.
Almost all endmills have  some kind of radius and it would be usefull not having to define all of them as bullnoses (witch is a different "species" in my book)

We have  like 5 different 8mm endmills, all with different radius,
When measure them in the machine I have to keep track of what radius that endmill have to get the measurment-offsets right (I.E walk to the tool-locker and check the package)
having that data on a setup-sheet would be nice

Yes I CAN include that in the description of the tool, like "EM-8-ALU-3D-R0.2" BUT  i cant sort the list by radius that way

The new separate feeds and speeds are very useful, would it be possible to also add a field for max stepover/stepdown. especially when using the same tool for HEM toolpaths given in % of tool diameter vs. stepover if using the same tool for finishing. It is easily set in the adaptive field when creating the toolpath, but I think it would also be helpful to save the info with that particular tool.

Is there a way to set the default units to inches? One more thing that is cumbersome is when tabbing through the geometry fields, instead of selecting all characters in the dialog box, I have to click on the text then highlight the entire string (sometimes long) to change the information. This only seems to be happening when I create new tools and not when modifying text previously edited.

Other than that, thanks for continually improving a great product.

@Anonymous Thanks for the feedback and I am pleased you are continuing to use the new library.

We are aware of the two issues that you raised and the developers have made the functionality on adding a new tool to replicate the units that are being used in Fusion. So if you are in inches and create a new tool it will be automatically in inches. I think this solves your problem. Also, we have some work lined up for the tabbing issue.

Thanks for your feedback.

I'm trying to use the new library, but I find it a constant struggle that I can'e sort by description and the other thing I have issue with if sorting by diameter, Imperial is all first, then Metric when they should be intertwined in my opinion.

I have also mentioned this previously, but it would be helpful to be able to save other cutting parameters with the tool along with the feeds/speeds, max stepover, max d.o.c....

Maybe the simple approach for now is a generic "notes" box/field in the "general" tool info tab where we can add text?

Also, to mention along with others' comments, the ability to customize by adding or removing columns showing tool info, one would be nice to show corner rad. for bull nose endmills.

Thanks for listening!

One annoying thing is that holders are treated as tools
In the old library they have a completely different layout (and you can sort by name/description)
