How to do tabs along with 3D adaptive clearing?

I have a shape I want to machine out of a block of wood, and it would be easiest if I could just have tabs in place. But with 3D pocket, there is not way to specify tabs to leave?

I have it setup with a 2D contour for the tabs, but the only way to get them left is to leave some axial stock... but that means all my part below that line won't be machined. Picture attached.

What is the best way to do this?

Tabs are not support in 3D adaptive, only 2D contour unfortunately. The one thing you could do though is actually model your tabs in place and 3D adaptive around them. Not the easiest solution, but pretty much the only one there

I guess I'm missing something.....

I've done that, but I don't see anyway to tell 3D adaptive to not touch one side of the tabs so that they stay attached to the stock......

You can use sketches as boundary constraints to keep the toolpath away from areas you don't want to cut.
