Full Flute Lenght

Quick question.  I am ramping a pocket with a 3/16" endmill.  I have made another part that is almost identical except the pocket was only .250" deep.  On this part, I would really like the pocket to be 1 inch deep (too complicated to explain why).  The flute length on of the end mill is 1 inch long.  Is there any problem using the full flute length?

Thanks... Richard

Should work OK given you use appropriate stepovers and feeds.

as you use more of the flute length the percentage stepover generally goes down, check with your feeds n speeds calc.

One thing to be aware of doing that in a small hole(relative to the tool diamter) is the first passes will have a lot of trouble evacuating chips and this can cause tool failure, like if you drop an 8mm endmill down and 8.5mm or 9mm hole there is very little room.

It looks like you are helixing down first so that should generate more room for chip evacuation.
