[Feature Improvement Ideas/Requests]

Hello,

I was told to post improvement ideas/requests in the "Manage" forum, but I believe this forum is better suited. If I am wrong in that, please let me know or please move to appropriate. Also, bear with me as I am new to turing operations, and may in fact be requesting something that either has been requested already or been solved in another manner that I have yet to learn. In the case of a repeat request, please consider it a "pretty please bump this to a higher priority:

Turning Operations Ideas/Requests:

  1. Enable custom turning form tool creation
    1. I know I know, this has been talked about for at least 6 years, but please please please reprioritize this to the top of the list. Right now I have to copy dovetail grooving operations from old gcode programs on other parts and manually update to the correct dimensions (dia of the groove and z plane of the groove, etc). I read and commented on the post regarding turning form tools, and please understand that for most in the turning world, creating tool paths of very common but custom sized and shaped features (like a dovetail o-ring groove) is so much more of a priority than importing 3D models of tools and machines for simulation. Not to say that simulation is not important, but I can almost promise that this one issue may (if not already) keep users and companies (like mine) from adopting Fusion.
  2. Re-label Front/Back to Z Max/Z Min
    1. I work with VTLs primarily and switching between front/back to up/down would be so much easier if re-labeled Z Max and Z min because that is what is truly being controlled.
  3. Enable selected sketch entities/model entities to determine front/back and inner/outer radii
    1. I currently create spun profile sketches and utilize sketch entities to control the tool path and is great...but...then I have to do it again with Front/Back/Outer/Inner, which leads to problems and chasing my tail to get the tool path right.
  4. Enable selected model geometry to project 2D profile instead of having to create and select sketch entities
    1. Spun profile sketch is great...but also an extra few steps and navigating between Design/Manufacture workspaces. Would be much nicer - especially for folks that come from the milling side of fusion - if the same exact geometry selection worked the same way.
  5. Enable tangential extensions when rest machining is selected and treat as an override
    1. Tangential extensions are disabled when "rest machining" is enabled, which makes sense until...I need both to only turn remaining stock AND extend the tool path tangentially, which is nearly every path.
    2. Alternatively, the start/end distances or an open chain selection can work too.
  6. Enable lead in/lead out to be tangent or perpendicular to tool path instead of having to enter an angle
    1. Much like specifying 0 or 90 DEG, but better.

All Operations Ideas/Requests:

  1. Enable differing feed rate at a specific point of a finishing toolpath
    1. Especially useful in finish facing/profiling when a certain section(s) has a different surface finish/texture requirement. Currently, I need to either create separate operations, manually edit gcode files (yuk), or both (double yuk).
  2. Enable referencing a gcode file using ManualNC
    1. Handy functionality from MasterCAM that I recently saw that essentially allows the user to "pass thru" an entire gcode file (simple) or reference that file in a subroutine call.

I know that was all quite a bit, but with my hiring, my company is not just evaluating me but also the ability to implement Fusion as a replacement for MasterCAM, and if I can get all of this...I know fusion is the way forward not just for me/my company, but I know for a lot of others as well.

Thank you,

Jody

@programming2C78B that's a limited area of usefulness. I suspect the OP is after control of a section of shaft that needs a mirror finish, but the rest of it is general purpose tolerances.

The good news is that we're working on something along those lines. It's currently limited to toolpath segments, which in the case of a diameter/shaft would be the entire length of the segment. Additional work is needed to add the ability to also split long segments into multiple areas to allow for fine feedrate control.

@programming2C78B thank you for pointing that control out, but yes the request is to basically split the toolpath into sections as@seth.madore describes, for both profiling and facing. Glad to hear there is already something in the works. Thanks @seth.madore.
