Create sub folders in Cloud Tool libraries

Hi all, I create and maintain a tool library that is intended to be published and shared with students in our school. For this id like to use Cloud Libraries.

Im wondering how I can create subfolders within a tool library, so I can create copies of each tool, with different surface speeds, RPMS and feed rates for a range of given materials. In a sense replicating the structure of the sample tool libraries but for our limited set of tools and materials. It is also similar to how tool libraries under vendors are nested into multiple categories.  So my advanced manufacturing lab (AML) Tree would look like this

Cloud:

Cloud/AML

Cloud/AML/Plywood

Cloud/AML/XPS

Cloud/AML/Aluminium

Rather than Individual Tool libraries like this

Cloud:

Cloud/AML

Cloud/Plywood

Cloud/XPS

I can see how to make additional tool libraries, but these are not nested, so they require individual download/import etc. its particularly important that the entire library can be exported as on .json/.tool file which I can host using team hub or some other service, and direct the students to download.

Thanks for your time!

Hi @r.blackwell,

Thanks for raising your query onto Fusion forum.

I have conveyed the wish for having the ability to create a sub-folders under cloud and local tool library to the development team, reference: CAM-13617. I will keep you updated on any progress on this.

Thanks for your time and co-operation.

@r.blackwell What if you had the option instead to configure many speed/feed settings for one tool and save it as a "Preset" and call up that preset in the toolpath operation dialog box? So rather than having hundreds of folders for every material and tool type combo, you could just have a folder for each tool type alone.

The dev team is working hard on bringing this functionality into Fusion. No ETA on when this will happen, but it IS coming.

Just a thought 🙂

I'd like both. Sub folders would be great for creating "kits" of tools, multiple profiles for rough/finishing/different materials. Different use cases.

The beta functionality of tool profiles is about right, itsi just a bit buggy at the moment.

I'd we're talking about the tool library, can a few more fields be added to the general tab? An InsertId would be useful for passing to the post processor.

Either way would be beneficial, but a better method for cataloging tools would be much appreciated.

When I used SolidWorks I had a folder for; Hardened Steel, Tool Steel, 4140, 1018, Aluminum, Plastics and a couple other random materials. Inside of each I had a folder for Mills, Drills, etc. Currently I have a folder Endmills - Alum, Endmills - 4140, etc, one for drills, one for inserted tools, one for specials, etc for each material.

It gets cumbersome and confusing.

Hi all -

It was never intended that sub-folders would not work for the Cloud libraries, but it turns out that's exactly the case. There are 2 underlying problems that are causing this, which we are working on as part of ticket CAM-13617.

We should be able to make this available to you in an upcoming update.

Has this been solved? We are eagerly waiting to be able to create subfolders in the cloud library.

Yes. This was addressed earlier in the year. I'm not sure if you can create a sub-folder within the tool library UI, but if there is one there -- e.g., created in data panel or web view -- it should show up and work.

I just tried to create a sub-fold from the web view and it is not showing up. I tried refreshing and restarting Fusion to no avail.

Which type of library is this? The sub-folders may only work for tools.

I should be more specific, it does show up if I go through the assets -> CAMtools path but it does now show up when I actually go to choose tools in Manufacture.

OK, understood.

I just tried this myself, and indeed had a problem with the new folder (and contained library) showing up in the Fusion UI.

I ended up having to close Fusion, and then go in and remove the local cache files, then start Fusion again. They then showed up. This is an area where we continue to have problems, obviously.

Even if you do that, it seems likely that the new folder won't show up until there's something in it. This, too, is not ideal.
