4th axis incorrectly machining

Hello,

I'm in desperate need of help with a 4th axis toolpath. As seen in the picture, with every tool angle change (A axis movement) the tool cuts into the stock more where it is not supposed to. The A axis is rotating around the X axis and with every increment it seems to want to machine down the side of the stock rather than on top. I'm using Mach3 to run the mill. Any help will be greatly appreciated

Meantime, what face did you select for the "Wrap toolpath"?

Judging from picture, you have origin set to edge of the stock in setup, it should be center point of stock.

You are spinning stock around its center, not the outer edge.

Unfortunately the toolpath would not wrap so I have a toolpath for each angle change (incremental) as seen in the file. I have tried running each toolpath individually with the same result.

I got a simple 2D contour to Wrap and it seems to be doing the job, I used a 4mm Flat EM and put in a little stepover to remove any cusps, think I got them all 🙂

Anyway, have a look at the images below and if it is something like what you are looking for then try out the attached file.

It will more than likely need some serious "tweaking" for speeds/feeds/step downs/stepovers but the main thing is it does seem to work 🙂 🙂

I have one more issue that I would really appreciate help with @engineguy . Could you please let me know the trick to making the wrap toolpath work? I have slightly changed the geometry at each end and now cannot make the toolpath work again. It has the red dash line rather than blue at each end as seen in the photo. Thank you again for your help.

If you have changed the geometry you will probably have to reselect the geometry by holding down the "Alt" key and going in close to make sure you get each segment properly selected.

If you want to upload your file again so that someone can take a closer look at what changes you have made 🙂
