2d trace issues with sideways copensation

cutting a fairly complicated tool path(geometry) out of a domed surface of plastic. when I apply the 2d trace function to the path(geometry) on center it works perfectly generating in probably a second. however whet I apply the sideways compensation either left or right it slows everything way down. it takes about 8 mins to generate. it also has a bit of a issue with where it plunges into the piece.....it kind of does a funny little movement that does't really make any sense. please see attached screen shots. Can you suggest a better method I should be using or is this an issue with fusion.

thks

It depends on quite a few things from how you selected the toolpath to how the model was done for how well or fast toolpath gen will be.

It would make it faster and easier to give the correct answer if you posted the model, To attach a file Go to File -> Export and save as a .F3D Archive File and attach it to your next post, if you can not post the file you can PM it to me or say in your next post you can not post the file and one of the Guys that do NDA work will help.

It is the same with you @Cave_Master  the model will need to be looked at.

Not applicable

Pictures are useless in troubleshooting anything, it's the result and not source of problem,....

then again looking at your model, why aren't you using contour for 2D tool path?

Contour gives you options you don't get in Trace.

@daniel_lyall Here are the problems I am encountering.   https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-360-manufacture/help-with-trace-toolpath/m-p/9213777/highlight...

I wish the "project" toolpath was made a little more robust, that i think would save my problems from occuring.

Yep, I know that one I definitely agree it would be good if we could have it on the left or right of the center since it is really the 3D version of traces.

And it covers the 2D contour toolpath when that can not hit the correct angle.

Which toolpath was giving you the plunge issue? I'm certainly seeing the long calculation time on the first trace operation, although my computer processed it in about 3 minutes. Still annoying...

hi

it wasn't necessarily the plunge issue that was giving me the issues it was more the outer toolpath time for it to generate as you saw. if you keep it on center it generates immediately. its when you choose left or right in the tool compensation that it takes a long time to generate. yes frustrating. could be my processor as well but the computer is fairly new. the issue of the plunge we figured was solved by adjusting the lead in and lead out values instead of the actual plunge value... weird?
