2D pocket toolpath issue after update

Hi everyone,

Three months ago, I generated a path that worked fine. Today I went back to this project and there is a problem with generating the path in several pockets even though I did not make any changes. I just loaded the model.fusion1.JPGfusion2.JPG

Changing the extension method doesn't help.

Has anyone encountered such a problem?

It's possible that something has changed in the toolpath calculation. Could you share your Fusion file?
File > Export > Save to local folder, return to thread and attach the .f3d file in your reply

The point of failure seems to be the Left/Right cutting method. I'm not sure of a solution (at this point), would it be possible to cut that one pocket in a Left (climb) manner?

The workpiece is foam. Reversing the machining direction results in a jagged edge.
Is this problem related to the software update?

Quite likely. The other very valid option is to use 2D Contour and turn on Roughing Passes:

 I'll get a ticket logged this morning as soon as some time frees up!

I used a similar temporary solution.
I roughed a 2D pocket in the left direction and finished with a 2D contour.

Anyway, thank you for your help so far!

Different "workaround" for this bug, instead of selecting bottom faces I tried selecting the bottom edges of all the pockets and this seemed to work quite well as it does the shallow pockets before the deep ones which would be logical, assuming you want to use pocketing IMHO 🙂 🙂

Example File attached.

@engineguy

But note that your example also has an error in the generated toolpath.

Similar as below:

fusion 4.JPG

In addition, with 650 pieces, it unnecessarily extends the processing time.

Oh, I'm sorry, I skipped a step in my explanation. Program all the pockets that do work. For that one odd pocket, use the 2D Contour solution for that one feature.

No, it's my mistake! @ was supposed to be to @engineguy (I have already corrected it).

Your post is clear to me 🙂

I did say that I was assuming you wanted to use the 2D Pocket that`s all 🙂 🙂

Have you tried the 3D Pocket Clearing ?? Might be better for this particular job 🙂

The problem was not resolved during the last update. Do you know how I can report it directly to the support?

Yes, the issue does not seem to be fixed 😞

However, a "workaround" that I have found is to create a new pocket and it seems to work OK, still a great PITA but can be rescued.

It would appear that the original 2D Pocket is somehow "corrupted" and creating a new one works OK 🙂 🙂

The problem arises when you change the direction of machining to the right (conventional).

Works OK here, see images below and attached file.

I did make some changes to the entry method, ie, disabled the Leadin/out and changed the Helix Diameter.

I also selected the deeper pockets first and then the shallower ones and enabled the "Preserve Order" and the deep area is machined first so  the shallow areas can be done from outside the small area so it is plunging into air as the main pocket has already been cleared 🙂 🙂

Works for me anyway, does this help you ??  🙂 🙂 🙂

@seth.madore

Quite possible that some changes have been made to the 2D toolpaths and it is a matter of learning the new way, any ideas Seth ??

@Protective-foam_com  The initial ticket has been fixed (back in June/July), but it's possible there are still outliers that present an issue. Please share your Fusion file here and I'll try to see what's going on
