2d contour wrap on internal feature

Hey guys,

 

I'm aware, from searching, that wrap won't work in this situation, but basically I have the feature that should be accessible using simultaneous 4th (the curves slot).

 

What I'm wanting to know is, is there a way to achieve this in fusion?

 

attached is a pic of what wrap gives me, basically what I want but oriented incorrectly.

From the picture, I have no idea what the wrap is actually doing now.

But the toolpath that I think can do the job for you is Multi-Axis contour.

a 2d contour with "wrap toolpath" is what I'm trying to do, and what would work if i could flip the Z orientation on it. sorry my terminology might not have been clear.

I only have 4 axis. a Swarf toolpath gets me close, but it's using a bit of 5th axis movement which I don't have.

Hey mate, thanks for taking the time, however i think you may be looking at it differently than I am.

 

The way i'm looking at it is that the feature is only rotated about an axis along X, therefore should be doable with only 4 axis. I've thrown together a little video to try to explain, with a reversed example and a working 2d contour wrapped on the part. hopefully this helps to explain better.

I see what he is saying.  You're still rotating in Z in both videos.  Change your axis of rotation to what is your current X axis, imagine it on a trunion instead of in a 3 jaw.  The issue is, fusion wants to come in from the wrong side of the part since now its an "internal" feature.

As TomD suggested, i'm planning on rotating about the X axis, no the Z as indicated on your videos. Hopefully this video explains why i think it should work if i could get the wrapped contour to do the inside contour.

which brings me back to my original question... is there another way to do it? If i could do a swarf tool path but lock 1 axis somehow would achieve the same thing.

Maybe flow?  I think thats the only one that can do 4th axis lock at the moment.

Alternatively, i'm not sure what machine you're using (you may have stated) but I bet there is some combination of z reverse A reverse that would output code that would work with your machine even though its drawn as inverted at the moment.

Your issue, while different, is showing similar limitations to my issue posted today where the 4th axis alone has enough motion to handle the part, but the CAM isn't necessarily doing what we would expect.

Flow looks like it isn't going to work on your part.  I tried messing with it for 20 minutes or so.  It really wants to go in either X or Y direction and you want to go around.

I can try flipping some axis, post processing and running in Tormach simulation to see if the output looks correct but I think that's probably the best bet.

I did some playing with this and the only simulation I have available(Pathpilot Hub) and I THINK, with modifying the G- Code a little bit and setting the WCS at the machine a bit abnormally, you could get the the results you want.  You want to "zero" A at 180 degrees and change G0 A0 to G0 A180 at the end of the program.  Your Z zero would have to be set at some value below the top of the part. I'll be honest, I can't sort that out without doing a trial run (math with the rotation is more effort than I want to put in) but it wouldn't be terribly difficult to walk it in.  

 

On the plus side, all 3 of those contours should work with that same zero and you could make a separate setup with that same zero IN FUSION, for the straight cylindrical setups if you have to profile the outside and the inside.  I guess it all depends on how badly you want to make one, how many, and/or if this was just an example.
