PLM360: Grouping Tasks in a Schedule

PLM360: Grouping Tasks in a Schedule

When you roll up individual tasks under a workspace record, and then link that record to a project schedule, you get a high level group with the tasks listed beneith it. This group can then be collapsed to make the Gantt chart much cleaner.

It would be helpful when adding "manual" (non-linked) tasks if there was a way to group these tasks so that they to can be closed and opened visually.

Hi dnaugle,

I understand the need for this request, but I have some questions regarding grouping the non-linked tasks together.

1.  Would the % Completion roll up to a top category like task and project.

2. How would you identify the grouping.  1.1; 1.2; 1.3?

3. Would these fall under a top category? When you collapse will the Top Category Display.

4. Group by Status,  Start Date, End Date

If you can help clarify with some additional details, this will help us understand the grouping request better.

thanks,

Trung

Thank you for your interest in this idea. I think the best case would be the ability to create two types of new tasks, a parent and a child. This way you could create a parent task into which you could then create and attach "children" tasks within it. A structure of 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 would be fine. Then have the ability to collapse the children down and just see the parent task. (Like happens now with linked tasks).

One other piece to this puzzle that I will make sure is added as it's own idea but I wanted to share it here as well because it is related...

We REALLY could use a owner field in the PM tab. This would remove 50% of the work that we need to do now to share our project plans with the entire project communities. The ability to print out the Gantt chart and have the task, date and owner all shown on the same page is absolutely needed, and I can guarantee we are not the only customers looking for that.

Thank you,

Dan
