Up to now, the only way to create a linked component to an imported step assembly, is to save it as a copy then import it as a new one and delete the one in the assy. This is a bit uncomfortable. Maybe Autodesk should develop a function , just a right Click and "save as indipendent"? So it is possible to work on a component as a separated design, keeping the link to the imported assy.
