What is the significance, if any, of the cross-hairs on pads of a custom library component?

When building a custom component, is a cross-hair on a pad telling me something other than letting me know that I am such an ignoid at this?

Those crosshairs exist on the Drills layer, and show the size of the drill. Different sizes of drills have different shapes of crosshairs.

In the past there was a drill legend script in Eagle, which made a little table of all the crosshair shapes and their corrosponding drill size. That way you could quickly see which hole needed to be drilled to which size if you had to drill the holes manually. I'm not sure if the script still works, but I'm happy they kept the different crosshairs.
