I have a 5 A current carrying trace, according to calculations the trace should be 2.5 mm which is very big for my PCB. how can I increase the thickness of traces (oz/ft^2) so I can reduce the width to a reasonable size.

You can specify the thickness for each layer in the "Layer Stack Manager" which is available in the "DRC" dialog under the Rules DRC/ERC section in the toolbar. You can select from a set of available materials from the manufacturer or specify your own by checking the "edit material properties" checkbox. Make sure though that whatever you specify is actually available with the manufacturer you are working with.
