I have now problem with all the parts which I have previously assigned 3D package to.

Their 3D bodies are rendered ok, however every part which I reworked now reports this error when I browse in Library Manager, or in right click Package. Same is after I Open device. See Pictures bellow.

BTW. Shortcuts type of CTR+ALT+E to hide/show design manager or inspector does not work 🙂

Hi -

Thank you for letting me know.  I am about to start a new PCB, will try and let you know.  I have another question pertaining to this. Does it matter whether I load the 3D package before I design the PCB?  I mean, can I fully design and route the PCB and afterwards add the 3D packages?

Kind Regards,

Friedl.

Hi @HelenChen-ElectronicsQA  -

My problem is partly resolved.  I can indeed add the 3D package as you can see from the screengrab, however, I am unable to get the 3D package to show in the 3D PCB.

I am not sure whether components "update" if 3D packages are added to footprints after they have bene placed in the design, or do I need to remove the component and add it again?

Regards,

Friedl.

Hi @friedl.basson

I hope you are doing well!

For your issue about 3D package, would you mind trying to Replace the Part or Delete the Part and Add it back again?

If it still can't work, please invite me into your project and I will check that for you.

Regards,

Panpan Fan

Hi @panpan_fan -

Thank you for your response.  (In my case) it seems a new par/component is created in the library i.e.

  • MPS-02-01-XX-X-RA-SD (no 3D package)

After adding the 3D package another MPS-02-01-XX-X-RA-SD instance is created.  If the initials one is deleted form the schematic and replaced with this knew one, the 3D package is reflected on the 3D PCB.  It does not seem to update parts placed already on the PCB the way Eagle did.

This is verified by die screen grabs attached.  You notice I now have several instances of this particular part as I tried multiple times before confirming my suspicion 🙂

In future, I will make sure to  determine entire BOM and make sure components have 3D packaged before they are placed in the schematic.

Regards, Friedl.

to clarify it I have to say I am using Team libraries only and these built-in. I can add and rework 3D packagaes flexible, even schematic is stil growing and PCB is not ready. There is no need to have complete schematic or pcb before rendering or attaching new packages 3D.  Please not that every part after adding packages have to be saved with different name than the source one. Usually i save them as team libs, then I must replace this part in schematic, synchronise PCB and render it again. All is working nice.

Hi @christopher2KLSVU  @panpan_fan  -

This seems to be what I am experiencing yes.  Let's say I added Component A to a design which does not include a 3D package.  I can then add a 3D package to the component and save it as Component A-2.

To have the 3D package show up on 3D PCB, I have to remove Component A and replace it  with Component A-2.  This leads me to the conclusion that components are not updated, rather, new ones are created. These new components must then be used in case that you so want to render the 3D PCB.

I think it might be worth spending some time setting up your own libraries with complete components, even thought it might be a bit time consuming 🙂

This is my experience, but I am very new to Fusion Electronics.  I have a little more experience with Eagle.

Regards,

Friedl

Yes new parts have to be created and replaced.
