Setting Component Colors via User Defined Parameters

I am creating 3D Models of various electronic components for export to our Mechanical Engineering group's CAD package(s).  One group of these components are the classic axial leaded, through hole resistors.  These are available in various power ratings (physical sizes) and tolerances.  there are several colored bands (axially symmetric about the body of the resistor) from which the user can read the values and tolerance for a given component.  I really don't want to create a bunch of unique valued / sized models each design.

I would much rather be able to apply a single model (for a given power rating) and then go the parameter section JUST FOR THAT COMPONENT, and put type in a single number (0 - 9) which maps to a predefined color for each band.  How can I implement this?  Also, It would necessary to be able to select a specific component to apply these selection values to as I do not wish to enter a value for one color band, and all the resistors in the design change that band to the same color.

Thank You for Your Input and Assistance.

Hi @brmooreWDCPX,

I hope you're doing well. It's not possible to assign models to individual components in the design right now. Personally, I don't think for your specific situation it's worth the effort. Mechanical teams typically just want to check clearances and have an accurate physical model. I would focus on making sure they have that.

Adding the color bands is pretty and visually looks impressive but in order to use it you'll need to have separate resistor devices each assigned to the correct resistor model with the correct color combination. I don't think that's worthwhile. However, if you want to do that this would be the way to do it right now.

Jorge,

Unfortunately, this does not help me very much.  The example I gave was only one of many that am encountering.  If I interpret your message correctly, there is presently no way to set the color characteristic of a component/body/model uniquely outside of the sketch/project within which it was generated.

Thank for trying.

Hi @brmooreWDCPX,

That is correct, although there are steps being taken to change that. Don't have an ETA on when some of that effort should fully start to bear fruit. The Edit in Place functionality that is being previewed is starting to move in that direction.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.
