Replace Part Not Working Consistently

Having issues trying to replace a part.  Workflow is: right-click > replace > select new part from library.

The part is just a through-hole pad.  There are 2 of these parts in the design.

I tried modifying the footprint of the existing part, then saved it to the same library.  Using the above workflow the part would not replace.  I received a message at bottom right informing me that the part was successfully replaced, but the footprint in the design was unchanged.

Instead I created a new part which uses the existing symbol but has a newly created footprint.  Using the new part, I was able to change 1 part, but the 2nd part will not change.  Each time I receive a message saying part was successfully changed, as shown in image below.

I've been reading on the forum about present confusion regarding tented vias / soldermask openings..  So I should add, the footprint modification I'm trying to change is a soldermask opening.  In the footprint editor of the library part I've changed: Properties of Pad > Solder Mask: 'Auto' to Offset = 0.635 mm.

Again, 1 part has changed and the soldermask change can be clearly seen on the board.  The other part is unchanged.  The parts are in 2 different, adjacent polygons. The are no differences in any design rules in the 2 different areas.  It's baffling why 1 will change but not the other.

actually, these parts are not being replaced at all.  I'd manually drawn a polygon non-signal circular shape on the mask layer on one of the parts, as a workaround, but I'd forgotten about it.  The library footprint editor shows the mask opening but it doesn't appear on the board.  Difference shown below,

Trying to do this with vias instead of pads as library parts.  Now I'm getting more confusing issues.  These are my Mask design Prefs,

replace_part_DesignPrefs-Masks.png

Which I'd assumed would allow me to set an opening of 0.625mm.  But I get this warning message when I try to change the via Solder Mask,

replace_part_Via_SolderMask.png

I just want to create a via (or plated throughhole pad, call it what you like), which has (in mm)

drill diameter = 2.75

copper diameter = 3.75

mask = 0.625

to create an exposed copper circle of 5mm diameter, with a 2.75mm hole at its centre.

Hi @matthewM5M9D ,

So it looks like you are aware of the fact that the rules are always in play so the Offset  value will be subject to it.  In this case the warning is superflous your rules allowed for the proper offset size so you should be good to go with the modified via. The value you entered is larger than the minimum but still less than the max. I agree the error is unneccesary. Does the resulting via look correct?

No the vias do not look as intended.

The Drill and Diameter are correct but the Solder Mask is not.  There seems to be an issue where Fusion 'corrects' my Solder Mask setting to 10% of the value I enter, depending on where the entered value lies within certain ranges.  Like this,

(In Properties of Via) Solder Mask:

I enter (mm)Corrects to (mm)note
value <= 0.380.038values less than or equal to 0.38 corrects to 0.038
>0.38 value <= 6.2510% of valuevalues between 0.38 & 6.25 correct to 10% of entered value
value >6.250.625values greater than 6.25 corrects to 0.625

Also, regardless of what value I enter, or what it corrects to, the solder mask of the via on the board doesn't change - it appears to be unalterable when using Solder Mask: Offset.  The Solder Mask Off and Auto settings seem to work.  Incidentally, as a workaround, can I change any preferences so that the Auto setting will create a 0.625mm mask on these two larger vias?  There are other vias using the Auto setting but their mask opening is not as important so I don't mind if they change.

Hi @matthewM5M9D ,

So the 10% is based on the drill diameter. So 10% of 2.75mm is 0.275mm which is what Auto would use because it's within the bound of min and max 0.038 < 0.275 < 0.625

As far as Offset is concerned any value that you input should be fine as long as it's within the bounds of the min and max. It sounds like you are not seeing the soldermask opening adjust for these pads. Would you be willing to share the files for review? Even a simplified version would be sufficient.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Thanks, I sent you a link to the design file.  I may be able to use Auto setting, but I'd still like to know if there is an issue or I'm just misunderstanding my design prefs.

Hi @matthewM5M9D ,

Thanks for sending the files. Something is very wrong with Offset it is not behaving as it should. I'm making a bug report for this.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

So Autodesk remains completely asleep at the wheel???  This was brought up SIX MONTHS AGO.

Once the status of this will change, there will be a follow-up forum post made.

Have any of the many FUS-xxxx ever posted??

Hi @nnovotney ,

To provide an update on this, we are very close to releasing the new updated annular ring/ soldermask/ stencil system. You are generous by saying 6 months ago, this has been a thorn in our side and users side for longer than that. There are few features that I desperately want out into the world and this one is at the top of the list.

The bot does report when a ticket has been closed. This one will be closed very soon.
