Creating tented vias (covered vias) and micro vias

Hi,

1. I tried to get my vias tented in my design to prevent them for contacting & so on. I was not successfull as you can see on the picture:

I set this (solder mask) to off

What has to be done to get them tented.

2. I need micro vias for a BGA 0.8mm pitch fanout design. What has to be done stepByStep to have them available? I have a 4 layer PCB started but i am not able to place micro vias.

Thank you for your help

Same problem here, what you CAN do is select each via Manually and select 'OFF' next to the soldermask thingy... I think the latest update broke the ' LIMIT'  setting in design preferences....:S

Hello @xpuipc,

I hope you're doing well. The LIMIT setting should be working there has been no change in that code( I just tried it). The CAM preview also shows the tenting. The limit value can be found in Design Preferences > Masks Tab.

For micro vias, you have to define those in the Layer Stack Manager. Just add a via pair that goes from 1 to 2 and check the micro-via box.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Hi @jorge_garcia ,

i am now a bit confused regarding via tenting....

what means for soldermask ?:

 1. Off

2. Auto

3. Offset

As you can see on the pictures all my vias are "open" (not tented, they will accept solder and are conductive) from the manufacturer:

who says this regarding tenting vias:

My ECAD:

Where i can find the "LIMIT" setting ?

Thank you

Hi @xpuipc,

I hope you're doing well. The Off soldermask on any individual via should disable its soldermask. However, it's not currently behaving that way, the fix for that will be out shortly. In the meantime, the limit value will achiever what you want.

The LIMIT value is just a threshold anything less than the limit value is tented. So set the limit value such that it is slightly larger than the vias you want tented. That's all you have to do.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.
