Collaboration on an Electronics Design

Hi,

we would like to collaborate by working on an electronics design simultaneously with several colleagues.

According to the Fusion Help (Fusion Help | Hierarchical schematic and PCB design | Autodesk), Hierarchical design seems to bring exactly the feature we need, "Collaboration: Different engineers can work on different block concurrently."

However, it seems like, a new module simply creates a new sheet in the same schematic file, thus modification of this file is not possible for different users at the same time, because with every single modification, the file is locked for all other users.

Additionally, with this approach, I cannot see how individual blocks could be reused in different projects.

Or is there a way how to save modules in their own files, which I have not found yet?

Hello @t_gemassmer ,

I hope you're doing well. The Hierarchical modules currently work best as a mean to organize a design but it won't help with multiple designers working concurrently. The best approach for now, is to divide the work into individual electronics designs. You can then merge those designs into a larger design using the Insert Electronics design command. Having them as separate electronics designs also makes them easier to reuse.

yes, thank you @jorge_garcia , this answers my question. I already accepted the solution.

We will continue as proposed, even though this is not really satisfying.

One clarification: As I understand it, the “Insert electronics design” command performs a pure copy/paste of the selected content, without maintaining a link to the original design files. Since we expect further rework and potential debugging in the final (merged) design, this would mean any fixes have to be applied twice if the partial designs remain in parallel.

Proposed approach:
After merging, we will remove the partial design files to avoid maintaining changes in two places.

Could you confirm whether there is any way to preserve a reference (e.g., a managed link or reuse mechanism) that would make bidirectional updates possible? If not, we’ll stick to the delete-after-merge workflow.

I hope you're doing well. For now, the delete-after-merge workflow would be the way forward. Currently bidirectional updates are not possible, but we are working to provide these other workflow possibilities. It will take some time, but we are actively working to improve this.
