Why do parts in an imported assembly show up in different spots that the saved assembly?
Saved assembly, everything in correct position:
When imported (The ball nut is in a random spot):
Why does this happen and how do I fix/prevent it? I tried moving the part in the assembly drawing and then updating the file it was imported into with no change.
If there have been no moves made, which there shouldn't have been because there was no asterisk beside the project name, there shouldn't be the option for capture position or revert position in the top right corner. Try pressing revert position and see if that helps.
I would expect to see a few joints in your 300mm Assembly. Why aren't there any?
Tried pressing revert and a few other things. No luck.
I also tried making a new drawing and all I did was import the assembly. It looked exactly the same as the second picture.
I'm pretty new to Fusion 360. I am not sure what you mean by joints. This is a simple representation of a ball screw. At most it would rotate, but there is no where it would bend.
A joint is not necessarily a place where a component bends. This could mean it could slide, rotate, or even have a ball joint effect. These are found in the assemble drop down menu in the joint option. These allow the components to have the motion so they can be viewed and function as it would if it were in front of you.
Unfortunately I cannot export as F3d, it only offers IGES, SAT, SMT, Step
This is all I get:
I also get a warning about referenced components. But when I click on the More Info nothing happens
Files with referenced files within them, will not export with that menu item.
You need to share the file marked as downloadable from the data panel, instead.
Might help...
Very old issue, but I just encountered this myself. Documenting for anyone searching in the future, not necessarily the OP (who has likely solved their problem by now 😉
The solution is to go into the origin design and make a rigid group (or, if there are moving parts, use the appropriate joint methods).
If its all just a static assembly, then in the tree, select the root object (be sure all the parts you want to be "assembled" in your other design are selected). Under the Assemble menu, select Rigid Group. Save.
Now go back to the larger project this is an assembled object in, and select Get the Latest Version from the tree.
This isn't per se "an issue". In Fusion, by default all components are free to move. It is a concept covered in the introductory tutorials here:
