Where are the dimension lines?

Just getting into F360 from Sketchup and found that there seems to be no way to dimension a solid object. Coming from a Sketchup background this seems such a hole in the program.

I understand that you can dimension a sketch but what about a sketch that is extruded? How do I assign dimensions to that extruded object so that I know what size to make the part? I'm talking about during the design process not at the drawing phase. I need them as I design the project not at the end when printing a drawing.

I am sure that I'm missing something but just can't find a way to do this.

Thanks for any help.

Fusion is a sketch based modeller.

Sketch a shape.  Extrude the sketch profile.  Set height or depth in the Dialogue Box, then OK.

Click on any new body edge - the detail will be shown in bottom right corner of the window.

Open Parameter Dialogue, and dig down into the listings, for your Extrude, you will see the height or depth value in the list.

Or, Open the Measure Tool, and make a selection for the article/s you wish Measure.

Turn off your Sketch up memory.

Might help.....

Wow, that a lot of work to just to see what size something is. Guess I'll stay with Sketchup.

If you reduce Fusion to just being able to see extruded lengths, you're missing out on a lot of ingenious features that don't exist in Sketchup because it's mesh-based.

I think it's good to be able to work with both programmes. Sketchup may have certain advantages when it comes to editing STLs. Also for ship hulls that have to be created mesh-based.

Hi,

In Fusion, drawings are derived from the 3D model and dimensioned in drawing mode.

Thanks GA for the video. I have seen a similar one to this. This may be great for a picknik table with three parts but I do custom cabinet work and a cabinet may have 50 parts to it and I need to see their dimentions when working in the design. Waitng to the end to print a drawing just won't work. I need to see them as I work through the design.

I don't know anything about a mesh style program or a sketch model style one. F360 must work for some types of design but in wood products dimentions rule everything we do.
