What Workflow Should I Use when Importing a Mesh as I Need to turn timeline on-off-on-off

OK I always normally work with parametric design (Time-line on)

But if i have a mesh I want to model I repeatedly need to sketch on a plane on the mesh. But to do this the only way I know is turn the time-line off and create a plane from 3 points. But then if I turn the time-line back on it creates lots of problems e.g. cannot edit sketch, extrudes loose connection to sketches etc.

I can try and define all planes I will want at the start with the time-line off but this is not great as some-times you need to add some features.

Any idea how to best handle this?

you don't need to turn the timeline off to create your planes. the mesh feature in the timeline is a type of base feature (meaning edits to it don't have history). double click on it (or right click and select "edit feature"), and while your in mesh edit mode you will be able to create your 3 point planes.

Thanks - double click on the base feature in the time-line?
