Weird visualization of grid on objects

So I just noticed something a bit odd in how the objects are rendered in the model window. Lets say you create a cylindar from a circle in the xY constructon plane. The center of the circle is at the world origin. Now extrude it. You should see a cylinder laying on its side if you are in the home orthographic view. Now look at the end that shows a circle. Half of that end should be below the grid (as in the grid should look like it is cutting the cylinder in half) but it doesn't. The entire body looks like it is laying on top fo the xZ plane when it should look like it is sitting in the plane. It creates a little visual illusion that is confusing to look at. Not sure if this is a bug or just some setting that needs to be changed, but it is confusing to work with.
