Fusion 360 becomes unresponsive

I have two different scenarios that causo Fusion 360 to become unresponsive for minutes or more at a time.

1. If you start a new design and upload a Avnet Microzed model (which can be downloaded here: http://zedboard.org/sites/default/files/documentations/MicroZed_RevF_3D_Model.zip). Then add the part to your design, and attempt to move it, rotate, or otherwise reposition it. It will eventually work, but takes probably 5 minutes per movement.

2. I attempted to model a PGA socket. This probably wasn't the best approach, but I started a new design, added a sketch, then repeated a small diameter circle in a square 18x18 pattern. Yeah, lots of circles for all the pins. Anyway, I lost all control of the program and had to kill it.

My system specs:

- Thinkpad T440p, configured to use NVidia GeForce GT 730M (Optimus)

- Win 7 SP1 64bit, 16GB ram, SSD

Number two I can get around by just leaving out the majority of the pins, no big deal. But number one is going to be difficult, since I need the PCBs modeled in the program for clearances, etc.

Hi Aaron,

I'm really sorry to hear what you have experienced…

For the first issue, it looks like a graphic related problem in Fusion 360, we have addressed some graphic issues for next Jan release, so it will be nice to get your file and compare behavior between Released Fusion and our developer version see if this problem been fixed:) and I probably can provide some suggestions with this model like turn off some effects to address the hang if I can get it...

I tried to download the file you provided to us, but seems got a Page not found. Do I need to get an account for this website?

There is another convenient cloud sharing way in Fusion 360 is to turn on public sharing in Fusion Data Panel, by selecting Share Public Link when right click design's icon in Data Panel; you will get an unique link of you file, and can decide "whether to access it requiring password" or "allow item to be downloaded" etc.

If you can provide us the this model's link that will be appreciated.

Many thanks,

Adele

For the 2nd issue, it could relate to performance with pattern of many small circles, or graphic performance.
Let me get a laptop and start with a new file see if I can reproduce this problem.

It looks like some extra characters were added in the URL. Here you go:

No registration should be necessary.

Excellent, thank you. My rough steps were:

- Create sketch

- 23.5 mm x 23.5mm rectangle

- 1.27mm diameter circle in the upper left

- make square pattern, 18x18, 21.59mm total distance each dimension.

When it hangs, it appears to use one core 100%. My laptop is a Core i7 4700MQ, 2.4Ghz, hyper threading enabled (8 cores).

Thanks a lot for the model:)

I can see there many small parts in this design, if I just open the file doing viewing operation, Fusion running quite smoothly;

But if I inserted it to another model, or move it, or just select the whole design, as you mentioned, Fusion will hang and my CPU up to nearly 100%.

It is a problem with Fusion selection performance. Usually to optimum it we will change two options in Fusion Preference as below image shows… but in this case with a GeForce GT 750M laptop, I didn’t seem too much gain. I will log this as an issue in our bug system, and we will keep improving our software.

Really sorry about what you have experienced on this ...

For the 2nd issue, it takes me about 5 minutes to finally get those 18*18 pattern, it's a performance limitation with Sketch Pattern:(

Sorry for the troubles you have been through....we will keep improving Fusion's capacity handling ability.

Regards,

Adele
