Weird visualization of grid on objects

So I just noticed something a bit odd in how the objects are rendered in the model window.  Lets say you create a cylindar from a circle in the xY constructon plane.  The center of the circle is at the world origin.  Now extrude it.  You should see a cylinder laying on its side if you are in the home orthographic view.  Now look at the end that shows a circle.  Half of that end should be below the grid (as in the grid should look like it is cutting the cylinder in half) but it doesn't.  The entire body looks like it is laying on top fo the xZ plane when it should look like it is sitting in the plane.  It creates a little visual illusion that is confusing to look at.  Not sure if this is a bug or just some setting that needs to be changed, but it is confusing to work with.

You're right - that is strange.  At first I thought maybe you did not have "Lock Grid" set, but then I tried it with that set.  The grid is in the right place, but it does appear as if it is being drawn in the wrong place, or the wrong order, or something.  We'll take a look at it.

it looks like the grid is under the cylinder

But it is not...

As you already said its only an illusion. The eye or really our brain is tricked as it does not see what it expects based on prior experience. The reason for this is simple, the geometry one creates Is always drawn in front of the grid and never obstructed by the grid.
The grid would be rally annoying and much in the way if that would not be the case.
