Views are Missing in Drawing DWG Export

I'm creating a 2D drawing of my component. I've added views and dimensions and then I export the drawing as a DWG. I then open the DWG in DraftSight (I know, it's not AutoCAD) and the views are missing. Probably a DraftSight issue but I figured I throw it out.

Hi Craig,

Thanks for pointing this out, we had another user mention this behavior too.  The 2D drawing views in Fusion 360 Drawings are AutoCAD "Drawing View" objects.  I'm not familar with DraftSight but it looks like they're currently unable to handle these objects.  We do have plans (timeframe tbd) to implement a more universal export option in the future, likely something which would export everything to model space and save out as DXF.

In the meantime, if you're interested you can check out DWG TrueView which can be downloaded for free and will open these drawings with visual fidelity.

DWG TrueView only works on windows. Places who do not use Autocad cannot open the Fusion DWGs.

450MB for a DWG viewer is also obese.

Drawings at least should have a dxf export option for those who do not want to use ACAD or have it.

This is a problelm for me also.  the DWG export does not even open in AutoCad 360.  I have also tried this in Draftsight with the same result.

I really love to have this function working as it is a well used export format. how about changing it for DXF

I had the same issue i used a trial of Auto cad and used the Export layout command then open the exported DWG and save it as a DXF opens in Draftsight.

Open the file in Auto cad type export layout in the command bar it will bring the command list up.

Save the new file with extension (layout) then when click prompted open the new file.

Click on the tab with the original file and close it as you do not need it anymore.

Now save the file as what ever version you need DXF or DWG (remember to remove the layout extension) now your drawing will be in model view now.

I saved the file as an DXF for laser cutting and also latest DWG for future.

Has this issue been solved?  I have a shop that uses DraftSight exclusively and has no interest in dealing with workarounds.  I really need to be able to export usable drawings as DXF or DWG.

The lack of priority and concern for drawing creation (having been a request for improvement in F360 for years) and document compatibility (this being a 3 year old thread) is very concerning as this is supposed to be a CAD software with a supposed focus on making it easy to get designs fabricated.

I have to agree here - the export issue is a reason why I never use the drawing module in Fusion and do things manually in Rhino

because basic must have tools with my clients army there.

Hi,

I have the same issue that my drawing views don't be visible after i use " output to DWG"

this function create .dwg file , but when i open this file into another cad software it shows

no drawing objects instead it shows only boarder of drawing file format.

is there any solution???????

The DWG out still does not work in a manor that can be used with my typical waterjet vendors nor can it be imported into SW with anything but the title block and dimensions.  Having to export/import individual dxf sketches is pretty tedious for both the vendors and the engineer.

@Anonymous & @greg.staples this is still a limitation of the DWG export for any work involving CAD products other than AutoCAD. The good news is that this is a project that the Drawings team is currently working on, so we are on our way to supporting this functionality. I did find a work around. If you save the file and open it with DWG
Trueview then hit DWG Convert and change the coversion setting to Autocad
2000 format it will work in other programs.

Still not ideal but it gets a useable file.
