viewcube locked on one plane of rotation.

why will viewcube sometimes only spin in one direction/plane and not allow any other direction/plain

are you in free orbit mode or constrained orbit?

may be helpful to do a screen cast of what your experiencing.

Free orbit as far as I know. I don't know how to get into a constrained
orbit, so maybe that's what I need to know. Maybe I'm
somehow constraining the orbit by accident'

what method of navigation are you using?  (to part equation -1 what are you doing to orbit? -2 what are your navigation settings in preferences?)

,,,but to answer your question, this happens when I try and spin an object using the viewcube. I did notice that if I then click the orbit icon, I can get it to go back to normal.
