hello.

i am literally on the first lesson in the PDF series to learn Fusion360.  I've built the 100mm by 100mm by 50mm box and have installed a 50mm hole down the center.  next we are supposed to 'push pull' the entire box, the deselect the edges of the hole.  you can see the edge count reduce when i click the hole's edges, yet the 8mm rounding still applies to all edges, when the hole is supposed to be unaffected by the change.

what (obvious and silly) thing am i missing?

It is probably because faces are selected as well as edges and the face selection overrides the deselect of the edge.  I do not like using press/pull.  I would rather use fillet if I want a fillet and select the proper faces or edges.

File>Export and then Attach your *.f3d file here, and if possible, also the pdf.

yeah it doesn’t seem to matter if i select just the 2 circle edges, just the face of the cylinder, or all three, i get the same result.

i guess i will go on and learn to use the fillet tool.

it’s just frustrating to only be 2 pages in and failing.

you can see the de-select in both the image and in the ‘count’ in the box at the right of the number of faces and number of edges to apply the rounding to; it simply doesn’t work when applied.

i’m assuming fillet will be covered later in the PDF series?

I don't know what the PDF course is but just make a cube and try the fillet command. You can try selecting faces or edges. Just play with the options and see what they do.

Hi,

it would be nice if you share the PDF or a link.

Your photos are not shown. Please use the camera icon on the reply to embed your photos. I think most people have not used the manual to learn Fusion, that you are referring to so a link to it would be helpful. Even more helpful would be if you go to the top left corner of your screen to the file icon and save your model to your computer as an f3d file, then attach it to your next reply, that way we can see the steps that you took to get where you are.

OK, don't use that course to learn Fusion, it is too old and a lot has changed since then. The fillet command did not have face selection then so it works differently now. I would use newer videos on YouTube to learn the program.

Hi,

First you refer to non-visible images. At our request, you then only offer us a collection of links from which we can then select the right one to finally search for the appropriate place in the PDF.
For me, this is no longer a basis for my involvement here.

Yes, it’s pretty clear that the instruction manual is from an older version.

Typically, I have been able to discover how to do things regardless, so the manuals at least get me going, and allow me to work at my own pace, without having to pause a video again and again.

However, the deselect situation I originally wrote about seems to work exactly as the book suggests… It simply doesn’t de-select.

I definitely appreciate all of your help and prompt responses; can you send me a link to the best series of YouTube videos so that I may use them in conjunction with the manuals?

I attached the images to an email as I normally would; I don’t know why they weren’t visible.

the link I sent was to one of your helpdesk threads, and referenced reply number three which had the links to all of the PDFs I was talking about.

Sorry to have wasted your time.

You must Reply using the web forum rather than by email. The contributors here are generally simple users like you - not Autodesk employees.

The channels I recommend in no particular order are,

Fusion 360  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCiMwMz3RMbW5mbx0iDcRQ2g

Desktop Makes https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxgunnLdsV72eAezHW6u0KA

Maker's Muse https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxQbYGpbdrh-b2ND-AfIybg

Lars Christensen https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCo29kn3d9ziFUZGZ50VKvWA

Product Design Online https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCooViVfi0DaWk_eqxIXXiOQ

Also if you can't figure something out, just search in on YouTube and learn how to do it, I learned a lot of the basics that way 3 years ago and there are many more videos now than then.
