Varying compute errors

Hi,

I'm working on a model for a Fokker DViii WW1 RC plane.

I don't have a lot of experience with Fusion.

I thought my model was pretty much ok as when the file loads I get a single warning on the timeline.

I've just discovered 'compute all' though and this shows many additional errors.

I've looked at the errors to ty to resolve them but I'm struggling to see how they have occurred as they affect quite large areas of the model, let alone what to do about them.

I've attached screenshots of the differences I'm seeing between document load and 'compute all'.

I've also attached the project if anyone is interested in taking a look?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi,

I am in the process of looking at your file but the thing that jumps out is that after you did the Compute All, all of the

errors appeared AFTER the original one in the timeline. This strongly suggests that if you fix the first one then most if

not all of the others will go away.

I will have a quick look at the file and see what else I can find.

Cheers

Hi,

Ok, I have now looked at the file and it seems that all of these errors are related to the linked files. I also do not see

why you needed to link these files. Each one of these parts is just another assembly or sub-assembly of the same

model. I understand that if you downloaded a model of a pilot from somewhere you might link it but it isn't

necessary.

You are also building this model from the inside out and not from the outside in which is causing a huge amount of

unnecessary construction to take place that is over complicating the model. An example of what I mean.

You are modelling individual bulkheads and skins which to my count has meant the creation of 17 individual planes

just for the fuselage. Why? Are you trying to create an RC Model or a faithful reproduction of the aircraft as built from

the original designers plans? Most RC modellers would design the fuselage as a solid body and get the outside the

correct shape. They would then use surfaces and thicken to cut out the skin for the outside. The internal structure of

bulkheads and stringers would then be created using intersection cuts on the internal solid to create the actual

structure you would mount the skin onto. This is easily created using a simple sketch of a box the appropriate size

and a rectangular pattern. By building from the outside in I just have to get the outside shape accurate and then use

the tools to create the inside.

The errors you have in your model are all related to the linked parts. Have you tried to model changes to those parts

directly after you have linked them or are you opening the original part file and making changes then saving? If you

have linked the files and are direct editing them then there will be a conflict as fusion tries to calculate everything.

When fusion recalculates it will go back to the original linked file and not take into account any direct edit changes

you have made to it.

Cheers

Hi Andrew,

Thank you for your reply.

I appreciate the advice regarding outside-in - I'll certainly look at that. I'm not after a faithful reproduction from factory drawings, just stand off scale. My current techniques are based on YouTube videos I've watched.

I have linked components so they can be re-used across models. battery, motor, pilot etc. Admittedly H and V stab probably don't need to be linked.

I haven't done any direct editing to the linked components, if I update a component I always update its reference in the main file.

I cannot see why the errors are caused by the linked components, the errors reference the fuselage component which is not linked - can you tell me what I should be looking for please?

I have also removed all linked components and run 'compute all', errors still show as fuselage related. Screenshot attached.

I'm probably missing something as I'm pretty new to this and I have no previous CAD experience.

Thank you.

Will need that new file for current data.

Do you remember when they (red and yellow icons) started to show up, what you were doing.

Before saving for a session, you fix them with Undo, - too late now.

The first errors are "Remove" you can delete those.

Outside > In is the way to go, anyone not doing that should not be followed.

Imagine doing one rib and telling Fusion to give me all the others.

Might help....

While I think you can complete this successfully, I would use this as a learning experience for future projects and build it very differently, following some of @Drewpan's advice. (outside-in).

For not having any CAD experience, frankly this is a bit too advanced of a model, so be patient with yourself and adjust expectations.

As I went through the timeline I noticed that you imported components, used the move tool to move them into place and then used either a position capture feature or the ground feature to fix them in that location.

That is not a recommended workflow!

you should familiarize yourself with the joint features in the Assemble menu, before continuing.

Edit: I would delete everything after the first warning or error in the timeline and redesign from there.

Every time when changing something earlier in the timeline, run "compute all".

If that returns a warning or error, STOP, find the root cause, fix it until "compute all" components without warning, and only then proceed.

Hi Dave,

Thank you for your reply.

I've attached the modified file.

I didn't realise I had these errors until a couple of days ago when I ran 'compute all' - feels as though it might be a bit late, but hopefully not!

Outside -> in - yes now I've seen the concept, absolutely.

Thanks Peter, appreciate your input - yes I've probably gone in too deep!

Joints - yes thank you.

'Compute all' will be my friend going forward!
