I am trying to manipulate an imported .iges model in fusion 360. My goal is to use fusion to perfect a solid body and then export it as a .stp file for use in SolidWorks. The model imports as a closed body but when I run the validate tool, it identifies invalid surfaces and un-stitches the body. It then generates a warning when I try to restitch it back together. I cannot find very much info on the validate tool or specifically, what to do when it fails to fix the body. When I try to export the .stp to SolidWorks, it errors. I think that unless I can get it corrected in Fusion, it won't export properly to SolidWorks. 

 

I know that the problem originates in the CAD software that I use to develop the original .iges model (surfboard) but the software has no tools to evaluate the object or fix it prior to creation of an .iges export file.

 

Any advice would be appreciated.

You have issues at both ends of the seam.  Zoom in on each end to see the problems:

I see those. I can’t get them to patch. Are there any techniques to fix those areas?

it looks like during the original geometry creation the ends weren't perfectly on the center line, but were slightly over, causing them to cross.  you may be able to better fix this in the original program.

Unfortunately, The original software thinks they are OK. What is interesting is that this .iges files will open in Fusion and can be stitched into a solid body. I can manipulate the body and perform all typical processes like boundary fill and fluid volume. It fails validate which means it isn't portable to Solid Works. I guess I was looking for a little more information about how the validate process works and how the tolerances might impact success. There is very little documentation on the validate tool.

There's something wrong with the edge that sweeps around the top face of the board from front to back. It seems like that whole edge has something going on.  It would be nice if Fusion reported more details on it, but it seems that edge can't be repaired in Fusion either.

Fusion 360 has got enough tools to show - I mean visually - what the problem is. This is not a software problem.the problem is that the creator of that geometry did not use proper surfacing technique.

 

He used two very small profiles to loft this shape. The loft rails, however are almost tangent to the loft profile. He did this win order to avoid lofting into a singularity and successfully created "some" surface, but he did not check the work.

My suggestion would be to trim  these areas off and use a variety of loft and patch to re-create this area.
