Is there already a way or is it on the roadmap (and if so for when) to do the following:

create a body with its length driven by a named parameter.

derive that body into another design

change the length in the new design

Without breaking the link.

No, there is no way to do that today, in a Derived design (other than in some limited cases, for instance, by cutting length from the Derived design, or adding another Extrude to make it longer, but those options are very limited).  Yes, that is on the roadmap (in a slightly different form).  We are currently in the middle of developing "Configurations", which will allow you to set up a table of parameter values from a single design, and drive multiple sizes of that single design for use in other designs, or to make drawings, or Derive, etc.
