Unable to split components

Greetings!

I've got a downloaded model that I wanted to modify, but unfortunately its not working. What I was expecting to be able to do is import the model into a new design, and then go to Modify > Split body, and then delete the portion I don't need. My issue is when I do this, it doesn't let me select the component as the "Body to split". I've also tried to extrude cut the model, but it can't find a target body to cut. Is there any way to fix this? I'm particularly thinking of a way to turn a component into a body, which I assume lets me modify it.

Your assumptions about components and bodies are somewhat incorrect. You can only split bodies, not components. BUt just because a body is always part of a component does not mean that you cannot split it.

If you can share your model I might be able to look at it and see wha the problem is.

I have no problems importing the .step file and splitting the body.

You might want to create a screencast so we can observe your workflow, because that's likely where the problem is.

Thanks for your help, I just tried re-downloading the file and for whatever reason it worked. Not quite sure what went wrong, but thanks for helping me troubleshoot it.
