Unable to delete files

I say a post in the forums about this but it was from a few year ago and was wondering if there was a solution. I am trying to clean up some files and I recently moved some objects from one file to another using the Derive operation. I broke the link and there is nothing else of reference in the new file, although I am still unable to delete the original file.

I am getting an error that reads "A version of this design has been referenced by drawings or other designs and cannot be deleted."

Any ideas or is this still a bug? Many thanks for the help!

no its not a bug...it is basically a protection mechanism (for the better or for the worse... depends) to prevent you from deleting any linked files...any.

Let me know if you need a work- around....you can sort of get rid of it

Hi @traditional.builds 

@stiller.design is right, This by design.

To delete the fusion files, delete the data from top to down.

1. First delete the Drawings
2. Assemblies are next. They refer to other designs if anything.
3. Individual designs should be deleted last

ahh, okay I may have misread the article. I knew that it was purposefully in the design but I had thought it was a partial bug. This is the article I read: LINK

thank you for the reply! I was mostly wondering why it wasn't able to be removed even after the link was broken but I guess you need to remove more data. Thank you!

What I do when I want to clean up old unused files:

rename them into "old_xxxsomething" so Iknow I should not use it and then create a folder Archive or Trash and move it there.

Its not gone but at least it avoids using outdated files
