Trying to insert this dxf into a new design, Fusion freezes.

Hi, i'm trying to insert this dxf into a new design, I can select the file in the dialog box, but once i click on a plane to insert it, it freezes.

I've opened the dxf in autocad and it opens fine. 

can someone please try inserting it and letting me know how you go.

This isn't the type of thing fusion is particularly good at.  The sketch engine works fairly well  when used the way it was envisioned to be used, but utterly fails at this type of thing.

what do you want to do with this DXF?  What is your end goal?  Is importing this into a sketch going to get you there?  What will you do with these sketch curves?  As @laughingcreek says, a Fusion sketch with thousands of curves in it is never going to work well.  So, if we know where you are going, we can help you come up with a workflow that will get you there efficiently.

Hi,

thanks for the reply. Im fairly new at working with Fusion.

 

I was hoping to import the dxf, and then extrude the outer parameter - Down 10mm, then extrude the shaded in areas Up 6mm.

should that work I was going to apply a fillet to the top edges. (see picture)

 

Is there a way this drawing can be simplified (reduce the amount of curves) for it to be more Fusion friendly? Or a completely different way of achieving this?

no one ever believes me, but I consider any work flow that involves importing curves into fusion to be an advanced endeavor, not one for beginners.  this is because of the numerus possible pitfalls  involved with imported curves that frequently involves a good bit of experience to recognize and over come.  Interestingly,  as most people become more experienced they find them selves wanting/needing to import curves less often. 

 

in your case, I would put the image on a canvas, and trace it with spline curves.  there will be some learning curve there also, but less so.

a few hints-

-take advantage of the symmetry this design has, only draw half of it.

-use multiple sketches instead of piling everything into one. (project thigs lake endpoints into the next one to keep things connected.

-use as few points as possible, manipulating the spline handles to get the shape.

-check your curves frequently with the curvature comb analysis

Is it correct that the square has an edge length of 4470 mm?

thankyou to everyone for their help and suggestions.

 

@g-andresen thankyou, your file worked, granted it took a little while to insert, and I wonder how fusion is gonna cope with it, but none the less, its a result 🙂 also No it is not suppose to be that size, I will scale it down now. 

 

can I ask, what you did? as i noticed the dxf file size is nearly a 10th the size.

When converting to arcs, I reduced the number of control points at a tolerance of 1 mm and thus also the size of the resulting file.
