Trying to align two components face to face to I can combine them

Hi guys

I have created two separate components, and am trying to use the align command to make them touch each other (face to face) so I can then combine them into a single component for 3D printing.

The problem is that when I use the align command, and select the two faces which I want to touch, then it shows as it it will move correctly, but once I press OK it moves back to where it was with a small gap between the two components. 

How do I remove the gap so I can combine the components into a single component?

Use joints to position them, not Align.  Once they are properly positioned, you can either lock the joint(s), or lock them together as a Rigid Group, then delete the joints.  Align will position the parts, but will not in any way keep them in that position.
