Trouble opening sent file in Solidworks

I am trying to send my CNC machinist a STP. file I made in fusion but when we opens up the file in Solidworks it becomes all surfaces. I tried seeing if the issue happened in Catia as well but it did not. Is there something him or I can do so this doesn't happen. I cannot link the file due to my customer restraints.

Assuming the geometry is good, have the customer right click on the import node and run Import Diagnostics>Attempt to heal all.  This should convert back to a solid.

The most common translation issue is modeled threads.

I find the same - solids become surfaces for anything remotely complex when exporting .step to solidworks.

The workarounds I use when exchanging with solidworks is

  • Always use IGES to export from Fusion to SWKS
  • Always use STEP to import to Fusion from SWKS (or X_T)

This needs a translator fix (probably kernal's dont like each others solids or have different tolerances to make surfaces watertight > solid) ,

But there are a a few other things I'd request before this fix  eg

  • Elliptical radius tool  (THE only thing I REALLY miss from solidworks) <<<< PLEASE
  • Fixes for recent Crashes (which just started at last weeks update 😞 ) <<<< PLEASE
  • Non-Black dimension lines (to see against black sketch lines) <<<< PLEASE
  • Someway of seeing parametric relationships in timelime.

But hey these are for another post 🙂 .. otherwise loving F360 !!
