How to make this mesh into a solid model with big surfaces?

Hi,

I have a 3D scanned model saved as a .stl file.

It is in high resulotion and its important to keep the shape.

(The only thing in the model that shouldnt be there is the cylinder shape on the back. Its a stand from when it was scanned.)

What is the best workflow to get this model to become a solid with big surfaces.

Converting is out of the question since thera are som many surfaces now and it would still not create big surfaces automaticly.. Some kind of remodeling required?.. But could I make it efficient somehow?

There is no Easy Button solution - you will have to use the scan as reference in recreating the geometry.

Request a CAD file from the intellectual property owner.

I understand there is no easy button 😊

But if any of you were to do this, how would you do it then? As with many things, there are several ways of getting the job done. But most of the time there is one way of doing it that is better/faster and repeatable..

About the scan file.. There are no original 3D file, this is why its scanned. 😁

It looks somewhat symmetrical, so first I would try to orient it so the one of the origin planes can be used as a symmetry plane.

Does the round top of the part also need to be reverse engineered , or is this just some "device" to hold the part while scanning ?

The round part is like you say, just from a cylinder we used when we scanned.. It should be removed/ignored when reverse engineered.. 🙂

@et.teljemo

It has been a month.

Can you File>Export your *.f3d file of what you have completed so far to your local drive and then Attach it here to a Reply?

If I were working on this - the first thing I would do is line up as close as possible with the Origin...
