Total beginner. Need help converting .pdf to .svg.

Hello all. I'm trying to lay a personal logo onto something I want to cut out and laser etch. I used inkspot, but when I try to drop it in, like the tutorial suggested, it states that the file has nothing in it.

Any suggestions on how to convert .pdf in a more efficient manner? I followed the steps to the letter, but am having no luck.

Try Inkscape:  https://inkscape.org/en/

I did this just yesterday.  I can open PDFs with it, and save as SVG.  Of course, it depends in what is in the PDF, but if it contains vectors and text, it should convert OK

Thank you. I used that. I converted and saved. When I try to drop it onto the chosen face of my object, it says the .svg file contains no information or unsupported information. When I open the .svg file on it's own, it is fine. there is nothing odd about it, it's a few fully enclosed ellipses. I'm not sure where I'm going wrong.

It must be because of what is in the PDF.  If you send me the PDF, I can take a look, but my guess is that it does not contain any vectors, only images or other objects that Fusion cannot understand.

Thank you. I'm attaching both the .pdf and the .svg images. If you have any ideas, please let me know. Much appreciated.

Yes, these designs just contain image objects.  It looks like they were just inserted JPEG or PNG objects.  Fusion needs SVG objects which are vectors ("paths" in SVG) in order to create sketch objects from them.

Sorry not to have a better answer.

OK. Thank you for the input. So, even though I converted it from .pdf to .svg, it is not necessarily a usable .svg? I'm confused by all of this, but I'll try to figure it all out. Thank you for your help.

An easy way to test PDF content for vector-ness:   rescale  the PDF in your defaut viewer- zoom in, zoom in some more -if the image quality never degrades at any magnification, you have a good candidate.

Why would you even mess around with trying to convert something that is so simple in geometry you should be able to re-create with teh Fusion 360 native tools in 30 minutes ?

You did not attach any file.  If you want a good site to convert PDF to SVG, try this one.

I have no applications to offer.  I suggest you use another computer to convert your PDF to SVG.

If you think Fusion is a good program for you to learn/use why not start afresh in Fusion? (perhaps using your design as a Canvas to Sketch on)Screenshot 2025-01-10 052326.png
